A tall fireweed stem climbs through a wash of golden yellow, orange, coral, and fresh green, its blossoms filled with hot pink and red and edged in loose, expressive black lines. The blooms become smaller as they travel upward, giving the piece a wonderful sense of height, as though the whole plant is stretching toward the last bit of summer light.
Pale blue botanicals and delicate feathery grasses weave around the fireweed, while turquoise drips, green stems, and scattered marks build a loose meadow behind it. Compared with its sisters, this one feels bolder and more defined, with the dark outlines bringing the fireweed forward against all that glowing warmth.
Sunlit Stems III is about continuing upward. About growing one bloom at a time without needing to know exactly how tall you'll become. One of three sister pieces, it celebrates the brief abundance of an Alaska summer & the wild things that use every damn minute of the light they're given.
Sunlit Stems I, Sunlit Stems II (sisters to this piece)
Comes framed, ready to hang.
Created in my Anchorage home studio.
